What does a WHOIS lookup show?
Each extension’s records are kept by its own registry: Verisign for .com and .net, Public Interest Registry for .org, and TRABİS for .com.tr and the other .tr extensions. NicFollow queries these sources directly, over RDAP where the extension supports it and WHOIS where it doesn’t, and shows the result in the same layout.
- Registrar
- The company the domain was bought from and is managed with. Renewals and transfers go through it.
- Registration and expiry date
- The day the domain was first registered, and the day it expires if it isn’t renewed.
- Status codes
- The domain’s current state, such as transfer lock, grace period, redemption or pending delete.
- Estimated release
- When an expired domain can be registered again, based on its extension’s rules.
